Quick Answer The Wonderlic Personnel Test (WPT) is a 50-question cognitive ability assessment with a 12-minute time limit (~14 seconds per question). The average score is 20 out of 50. Most job roles require 18–26; professional and management roles require 26–30. The Wonscore adds personality and motivation assessments alongside the WPT cognitive score. Targeted prep produces 6–12 point improvements in practice scores. Last updated: · By Michael Lerner · Free practice test →

Know your target

What score do you actually need? It depends on the role.

There's no universal passing score, your score is compared to other candidates applying for the same position. Higher is always better. These are the benchmarks by role.

The AI Performance Coach

The part that changes everything: AI that finds exactly what's costing you points.

After every practice test, you don't just see a score. You see the pattern behind your mistakes, and a precise roadmap for what to fix before test day.

1

5-minute diagnostic identifies your weak spots

Before you study a single thing, the AI maps your exact strengths and weaknesses down to question type. You know immediately where to focus your time.

2

Detects hidden patterns you'd never catch yourself

Things like: consistently missing word problems in the final 2 minutes (a timing issue, not a math issue). Or getting spatial questions right on easy sets but wrong on hard ones. The AI sees the pattern. You fix the right thing.

3

Updates your predicted score after every test

Your predicted score moves in real time as you improve. When you consistently hit your target, you know, with data, that you're ready.

Why strategy matters

14.4 seconds per question. The school method won't cut it.

The difference between a 20 and a 30 isn't intelligence, it's knowing the shortcuts. Here's one example from Michael Lerner's QuickPass™ method.

40+ seconds

The school method

A factory floor is 175 ft × 60 ft. A storage room is 35 ft × 15 ft. What percentage of the factory is the storage room?

Full multiplication: 175 × 60 = 10,500. Then 35 × 15 = 525. Then 525 ÷ 10,500 = 0.05 = 5%. Three separate calculations. 40+ seconds. You've already fallen behind.

15 seconds

The QuickPass™ method

Compare the ratios directly:

15 ÷ 60 = ¼    35 ÷ 175 = ⅕
¼ × ⅕ = 1/20 = 5%

Same answer. Three simple fractions. 15 seconds. This is one of 17 question-type strategies in the course.

For Wonscore users

Wonscore is three tests in one. Most candidates only prepare for one of them.

Wonderlic Select, commonly called Wonscore, produces a composite score from three separate assessments. Employers see one number, but it reflects all three. You need to prepare for all three.

01 / 03

Cognitive Ability

The standard 50-question test. Verbal, numerical, spatial, logical. No calculator, 12 minutes. This is what most of the course covers, and what most of your score comes from.

Covered in core QuickPass™ course
02 / 03

Personality Assessment

Evaluates traits like conscientiousness, agreeableness, and emotional stability. No right or wrong answers, but certain patterns are preferred for different roles. Knowing this changes how you respond.

Included in Wonscore Complete
03 / 03

Motivation & Drive

Measures how your work motivations align with the role. Employers use this to predict engagement and retention. Authenticity is important, but so is knowing what they're looking for.

What most candidates miss

Most prep covers the cognitive section and stops there. The Wonscore is three assessments. Personality and motivation responses are scored on consistency and role-fit profile, not on right answers. Wonscore Complete includes all three modules in one $77 SKU: the cognitive prep (50Q WPT format), the personality module (Big Five self-assessment, consistency-check tool, 12 role profiles), and the motivation module (forced-choice triad simulator with RIASEC-style scoring). 120-day access, 7-day refund.

He built this course because the resources that existed weren't honest about how hard the real test is, or what it actually takes to score competitively.

FAQ for job applicants

Common questions

My employer sent me a Wonderlic link. What test am I actually taking?
Most likely the Wonderlic Personnel Test (WPT-R), 50 questions in 12 minutes, or the QuickTest (WPT-Q), 30 questions in 8 minutes. If your employer uses Wonderlic Select or Wonscore, you'll also complete personality and motivation sections after the cognitive test. If you're not sure, check the email your employer sent, it typically names the platform. This course covers all formats.
What score do I need to pass?
There's no universal passing score, it depends on the role and the employer. Most companies set cutoffs between 20 and 28. More importantly, you're competing against other candidates: the highest scorer often wins the position, regardless of the cutoff. Use the score table above to find your target based on your role.
My test is tomorrow. Is it too late?
No. Start with the AI diagnostic right now, it tells you where your time is worth most. Core prep takes 5–8 focused hours. Many candidates have prepared effectively in a single evening using this system. Don't spend time on areas you're already strong in, let the AI direct you.
Can I use a calculator?
No. Calculators are not permitted on the Wonderlic Personnel or Cognitive Ability tests. You can use scratch paper. Our course includes a 30-minute mental math shortcut module, after completing it, most students find they don't miss the calculator at all.
What is the Wonscore personality section, and how do I prepare for it?
Wonscore adds personality and motivation assessments to the cognitive test. There are no right or wrong answers, but certain response patterns are preferred for different roles. The Wonscore Complete course ($77) includes the Personality module (Big Five self-assessment, consistency-check tool, 12 role profiles) and the Motivation module (forced-choice triad simulator with RIASEC-style scoring). It's not about "gaming" the test, it's about knowing what you're being evaluated on.
Will the real test be as hard as the practice tests?
Our practice questions are calibrated to match or slightly exceed real test difficulty. The most common TrustPilot feedback we receive: "The real test was easier than I expected." That's intentional, we overprepare you so test day feels manageable, not overwhelming.
Will my employer see my practice scores?
No. WonderlicTestPrep.com is completely independent from Wonderlic, Inc. and from your employer. Your practice results are private and visible only to you.

The job you want is on the other side of this test.

The candidates who advance are the ones who showed up prepared. Most don't. That's your advantage.
